Eyelining Obsessions: A lip pencil I actually use (It's Mac Redd if you ...

I’m not the worlds biggest fan of lip liners. I don’t dislike them per say I just don’t often feel the urge to use them. The only occasion I do feel the need is when I wear a deep red lip. In fact the products that spurred me to buy a red lip liner was the iconic Chanel Dragon, I wanted something to use as a base so it wouldn’t be as noticeable when the deep crimson colour faded. The description on the MAC website said that Redd is ‘clearly red’. I was hoping for something a touch deeper but this is actually a fairly light orange toned red. Not quite what I was after but pretty nonetheless.

These 1.45g pencils cost £10.50, not too bad for a MAC products actually. The hard texture means that I’ve only had to sharpen it once despite using it heavily especially over the Christmas period. It is a little drying, too much for me to wear it on its own but the hardness and the dryness means that it clings on to your lips for dear life. I find it works best if I fill in my entire lips then kind of smush it into the skin with a finger to get it really even. Once on it outlasts any lipstick you put on top of it meaning that you don’t get left with the dreaded line around your lips with nothing left in the middle. It isn’t a perfect match for Dragon (I think I may have been better off with Brick?) but it works well enough for me to get away with it. The hard texture also means it sharpens well with no breakage or wasted products thus far.

So has it turned me into a lip liner convert? Only in certain circumstances. If I’m wearing a bright lip (e.g. red, pink or purple) then yes I do see the benefit as it does extend the wear of your lip products and helps disguise fading. I won’t be buying any neutral colours for every day wear though as I just can’t be bothered with it on a daily basis x
